Opportunity Insights: Class Mobility
To wrap up my time in my Sociology major, I am conducting a final capstone project that highlights the Opportunity Insights report published by Harvard data scientists which put Charlotte, North Carolina in 50th place for social mobility in the United States. What has Charlotte done since then to better Charlotte as a city for opportunity? During my Sociology independent study, I will further answer this question with a detailed report by December. Additionally, in line with my Data in Education class and aligned independent study mentioned below, I will review the data around intergenerational mobility and income segregation across colleges. Altogether, these data analyses will mix together and be displayed on a web app by the end of the semester.
The College Crisis Initiative
As an extra independent study this semester, I’m participating alongside other peers to make up a dynamic core team that officiate how C2i functions and data collection. I am emphasizing my technological focus from my semester in San Francisco to fulfill the role as the Chief Technological Officer of C2i in order to manage the technological aspects and needs of C2i.
For my capstone solo project with Adjacent Academies, I rendered a website that connects quantitative data around depression and a qualitative space for people to share their experiences with depression or symptoms caused by depression. See the site at: http://coda-connects.herokuapp.com.
In my presentation of Coda Connects, I emphasized the use of an anonymous collection base because of the social contexts that may exclude certain people from discussing experiences with depression. My complete presentation of my product can be found here: Coda Connects Presentation.
Quarantine and remote learning
Above is one of my most recent group projects which relies on Covid-19 data to keep track of cases by state. The live app is here: http://covidtracker-adjacent.herokuapp.com/
