Summer 2018 | Beatties Ford Road REU | Dr. Joseph Ewoodzie
// During the summer of 2018, I conducted qualitative research on the indirect impacts of gentrification on communities. What happens when a neighborhood is gentrifying right in front of your eyes, but you’re still here? Is it still yours? I interviewed 12 people to understand the shifting cultural and political climate within neighborhoods/communities experiencing gentrification.
// I was a part of the Beatties Ford Road REU with Davidson College, UNCC, and Johnson C. Smith University. The internship and research was funded by the National Science Foundation.
// I presented this research at Johnson C. Smith University in August 2018, at the North Carolina Political Science Association Conference in March 2019, and again at the Southern Sociological Society Conference in April 2019.
